  • Bumble Dating App Review – Swipe Right Diaries

Bumble Dating App Review – Swipe Right Diaries

    How it works

So you’ve Tindered, you’ve Happned, even wrestled with the Cupid, now what?

Have you stumbled across to the Bumble Dating App?

Bumble Dating is like Tinder and Once dating app’s child.  You swipe right or left depending on who gives you that “mmmm” feeling and wait for a match.

    bumble match

This app’s unique selling point though, similar to Once, is placing the first move in the hands of the ladies.  In order for a man to speak with a lady, you have to both match and then the timer begins.  24hrs for the lady to send the first message.  When the first message has been sent, the male then has 24hrs to reply and keep the momentum going.  But unless either chooses to “Block” or “Un-Match” the conversation channel is then locked in once the guy replies.  Phew…. No pressure then…

    bumble timer

You can carry on swiping through your potential matches building up your “F£ck Yes” or “F£ck Nos” as much as you like which is where it takes the lead over Once in my opinion, that only supplies one suggested match every 24hrs.

Although my Bumble mysteriously stumbled… at one point saying that London had run out of women…?

    bumble dating app out

I was back up and running a few minutes later though.

    Signing Up To Bumble Dating

As with many of the apps now, signing up is via Facebook login, this is the only way to sign up to Bumble at the moment according to their help FAQs.

When you enter your Facebook login, the app then requests permissions to various data on Facebook.  One of them being your friends list.  I disallowed this as I didn’t see why they would need that.  But it appeared to let me continue through to the app and carry on setting up my profile regardless.

Similar to Tinder, your pictures are chosen from your Facebook galleries and basic information such as first name, age, gender and date of birth are set.  Weirdly Bumble allows you to change your gender once.  Why? Who knows, possibly to resolve situations where you may have had a gender change on Facebook and not remembered….?

    Do you have to Pay?

No, it’s FREE, however as with many apps, premium features come at a cost.  Bumble calls this “The Boost”.

    bumble boostbumble payment

For £7.99 per month The Boost gives you:-

    • Access to your Beeline, people that have already swiped right on you.  Although I’d have thought you’d come across these naturally anyway?
    • When you have matched with someone and you let the time run out it opens up expired matches that you may not have replied to quick enough.
    • Extends. (For the men) So you can really look like a stalker.  This extends the person as many times as you like, so that you really know they don’t want to match with you when your face doesn’t disappear after 24hrs.
    • Buy More Time. (For Women). Not sure of the point in this as it would take literally seconds to send someone a message. “Hi” being the pretty common one I found.

    Key Features

    • Swiping right or left on your likes or no thanks.
    • Full control over your chosen pictures and main picture.
    • Full control over your profile “About me” section.
    • Unlimited chat with a matched member on the app.
    • Ability to turn notifications on or off.
    • Preferred distanced from your served potential dates. Great for those who don’t like to go south of the river? (London Joke).
    • Selecting your chosen age range in settings.
    • Showing your favoured sex or even BFF, for those only looking for “friends”.

    bumble setttings

    Pros

    • Very well coded app, easy to use and fast. No hangs or freezes that I experienced.
    • Free usage as long as you aren’t bothered about the extra features.
    • Gives more control to the ladies, which as a guy, why not? We can sit back and wait for a change.
    • As a result of the female lead required, women do seem more pro-active.
    • Photo verification, nice touch, prevent those “Catfish” dates.

    Cons

    • As with the Once dating app, Bumble times out matches and messages within 24hrs. This kind of sucks as not everyone checks their apps every day.  When they are gone, they are gone for good.
    • Unless you purchase the Boost features, you cannot extend or bring back matches or messages that you may have wanted to engage with.
    • Not convinced on how close the matches are, most of mine were at the very outer limits that I’d set. Tinder appears to be better at locating closer dates.

    To Conclude The Bumble Review

It’s certainly an improvement over Once.  More like Tinder, Bumble allows you to carry on your virtual exploration even after you have some matched timers rolling.  I much preferred this as it makes the chances of a match actually engaging higher.

Top tip from me would be to swipe in the morning on the way into work or on the way back.  If a match times out in the middle of the night, you are more likely to lose them.  Bumble is good about prompting time outs as they are about to happen.

Women that choose to use Bumble to date, understand that the first move is in their hands.  So guys, sit back and wait.  But don’t be fooled, once they send that first message, you still have to impress to get a date in person.

Have you tried the Bumble Dating App?  Leave me a comment here and tell me about your experiences.

I didn’t get to be CEO by playing nice. I’m cutthroat and ruthless—and yes, occasionally rude. But it gets the job done, and that’s all I care about. My business partners disagree. They insist I need to improve my communication skills. That’s how I end up with Zoey Thomas shadowing me.
From the moment she steps into my office, I have one goal: ignore her until she quits. I don’t need anyone telling me how to conduct my business. I call the shots. Always.
But the more I push Zoey away, the more she insists. Frankly, she’s infuriating. She’s too chirpy, too sassy, and far too sexy. When we finally sit down to discuss how I could communicate better, I barely manage to pay attention. Instead, I fantasize about exploring her body all night long, and that won’t do.
I manage to keep my distance, right until she shows up at the boxing ring where I blow off steam. Outside the confines of the office, instinct takes over. I kiss her, then explore her in all the ways I imagined.
But Zoey Thomas is completely off-limits. She’s fun and walks around with her heart on her sleeve. I’m the exact opposite. Worse, I’m married to my work. Always have been and always will be. I can’t offer her what she wants.
But how am I supposed to let her walk away when all I want is to keep her?

  • How to flirt post Weinstein | LOVElife Dating Blog

Flirting. It used to be so much fun, right? Once upon a time we could happily flirt in the office, tell a woman she “looked hot”  make some ‘hilarious’ quip like “while you’re down there … ” to a colleague when they pick something up from the floor (cringe). ‘But it was harmless fun, I mean, she smiled about it?’ Thing is, her smile was probably a grimace because she’s uncomfortable, angry and a little bit humilitated by this sort of ladish banter but has learnt to let it go because that’s just how men behave…

Not anymore, thanks to Harvey Weinstein. The allegations, the debate, the millions of  fed- up women who joined the #MeToo campaign. And these women weren’t just talking the physical sexual advances here either, the world realised those ‘harmless’ verbally suggestive quips were also not OK. The world began to point and wag a finger at man and man realised  the ‘fun’ was no longer funny. Making anyone, male or female, feel belittled, uncomfortable or reduced to a sexual plaything is never OK.

Confused over what constitutes harassment, some guys have retreated into their shell rather than risk causing offence and being called out. It’s got confusing. So how do you flirt online or in public places now?

Here, for the flirt-starved male or female, is a list of rules to help navigate the choppy flirting waters post the Weinstein age.

      1. No means no: These days there’s never any question over whether no means no, no?  Tip: When you’ve got to the sex stage, an enthusiastic “yes” is all you’re looking for here. Hear the word no, no matter how quietly, and someone is having second thoughts. They’re really not looking to be persuaded, convinced or coerced into sex. Their brain, for whatever reason, has red-flagged the sex scenario. You need to stop and have a chat.  Some might feel all this verbal communication removes the mystery, but you could rapidly be heading for trouble if you add 1+1 and don’t get 2 consenting adults.
      2. Who’s got the power?  Consider the power dynamics. If you’re in a position of authority, or you’re a fair bit older than the person you like,  you need to be wary. Ask yourself,  is the person really receptive to my advances or do they feel their job/career may be on the line if they don’t flirt back? Or do they feel a little intimidated by my role? Proceed with caution.
      3. Read the signs:  Anyone making a sexual approach to another human being needs to get skilled in reading body language as well as a wise grasp of what is being said through texts or online messages.  Research suggests that the young generation of digital natives, growing up with smartphones, are actually less skilled at reading facial signs and body language, something to consider if you’re older than they are. Digital flirting is much easier than doing it in ‘real life’ so be mindful that people can come across more sexually confident or explicit in messages than they actually really are. No matter what is said digitally, nothing can be better than face to face communcation for reading ‘dem signs properly.
      4. Touchy touchy: Groping, fondling, stroking etc without consent is actually illegal and post Weinstein, people who who commit these acts are now more likely to be called out and reported. Many are still getting away with it, but plenty more are being exposed.
      5. Wink wink? A recent YouGov survey on sexual harassment found a strong correlation between a woman’s age and whether or not she considered wolf whistling to be sexual harassment. 64 per cent of 18-24 year old women said it was, a figure and just 15 per cent among women aged 55 or over. A similar result is found with winking: 28 per cent of 18-24 year old women said it was harassment, compared to 6 per cent of the over-55s.
      6. Language, please: The Weinstein revelations have made us privy to examples of how so-called compliments npw sound incredible excruciating. J-Law  revealed that she was once told by a director that she was “perfectly f**able”. Nice. She must be so proud. Compliments do not have to have explicit sexual content that push the boundaries of acceptability, especially when you think  that  being called stunning on her Linkedin profile caused barrister Charlotte Proudman to hit out at lawyer Alex Carter-Silk for sexism.
      7. Locker room banter is old news: Yes, somehow Donald Trump managed to ride-out his dreadful “p****-grabbing” comments of last year but it’s just not on. Noone can presume they’ll get away with this kind of talk without someone calling them out.
      8. Be better than lad culture. Pornography is ubiquitous and sadly, girls appear to be viewed as sexual objects as much as at any time in recent history. Increasing numbers of men too. But guys, you have mother’s, sisters and maybe one day you’ll have daughters. Put aside your own needs and treat other people as human beings rather than sexual objects. Read the signs. They are there. Flirt carefully and respectfully, people!

What are your thoughts of flirting post-Weinstein? Tell us @lovestruck

“A delightful and courageous tale and a romping good read. Voila!” —Mark Greenside, author of I’ll Never Be French (No Matter What I Do)
William Alexander is more than a Francophile. He wants to be French. There’s one small obstacle though: he doesn’t speak la langue française. In Flirting with French, Alexander sets out to conquer the language he loves. But will it love him back?
Alexander eats, breathes, and sleeps French (even conjugating in his dreams). He travels to France, where mistranslations send him bicycling off in all sorts of wrong directions, and he nearly drowns in an immersion class in Provence, where, faced with the riddle of masculine breasts, feminine beards, and a turkey cutlet of uncertain gender, he starts to wonder whether he should’ve taken up golf instead of French. While playing hooky from grammar lessons and memory techniques, Alexander reports on the riotous workings of the Académie française, the four-hundred-year-old institution charged with keeping the language pure; explores the science of human communication, learning why it’s harder for fifty-year-olds to learn a second language than it is for five-year-olds; and, frustrated with his progress, explores an IBM research lab, where he trades barbs with a futuristic hand-held translator.
Does he succeed in becoming fluent? Readers will be as surprised as Alexander is to discover that, in a fascinating twist, studying French may have had a far greater impact on his life than actually learning to speak it ever would.
“A blend of passion and neuroscience, this literary love affair offers surprise insights into the human brain and the benefits of learning a second language. Reading William Alexander’s book is akin to having an MRI of the soul.” —Laura Shaine Cunningham, author of Sleeping Arrangements

“Alexander proves that learning a new language is an adventure of its own–with all the unexpected obstacles, surprising breakthroughs and moments of sublime pleasure traveling brings.” —Julie Barlow, author of Sixty Million Frenchmen Can’t Be Wrong

  • Which Photos Make The Best Dating Profile Pictures Ever

Which Photos Make The Best Dating Profile Pictures Ever

The best dating profile pictures ever

Here at Hey Saturday, the original home of dating profile photography, our whole focus is on helping people create the best dating profile pictures they can, to attract more and better quality matches on dating apps. Most of our clients use dating apps like the ubiquitous Tinder, Hinge, Her, Bumble, Grindr, Match, Plenty of Fish (in the US), eHarmony etc.  We’ve been serving awesome dating profile pictures since 2013, so have a lot to say and share on which photos make the best ones.

The most important thing to realise is that every photo you share in your set needs to be working hard for you. Your dating app profile pictures are like your premium advertising space – and you can’t afford to waste it. Each photo has a role to play. It might be showcasing you at your best, telling people something intriguing about you, or attracting attention because it includes bold colours and an eye-catching  background or outfit etc.

Now, if you prefer to listen to your advice & tips rather than read it, you can check out my dating photo podcast, Shoot Your Shot: The Art of Dating Profile Pictures. Check out this show for my jam-packed mini episodes that will inspire you to experiment, have fun and aim higher when creating your profile pictures for online dating apps.

    best dating profile picture

Dating profile pictures reimagined for the Social Media Age.

    1. Think of your dating profile pictures as a set rather than a grouping of random pictures. Together they need to paint a story. The story of what it would be like to date you.
    2. Ideally you should use 5/6 photos on your profile at any one time. Any fewer than that and people get a bit suspicious, like they think you might be hiding something. More than that and you’re giving them more content to find fault with.
    3. Update your dating profile pictures at least once every couple of months to freshen up your profile. Swap in 2-4 new ones to make it look new and fresh and beat the algorithms. You can mix and match Hey Saturday photos with one or two of your own photos.

    best dating profile pictures

    Top dating profile picture do’s.

    1. Use good quality photos only. Always. There is no room in this Instagram age to still be using blurry, poor quality photos if we want to make a great impact online. Not convinced and secretly thinking, ‘yeah, yeah, I’ll be fine’? Maybe ponder this – good quality profile pictures attract good quality dates, while poor quality pictures attract poor quality dates. People with high self-esteem are unlikely to value poor quality profile pictures. This is because they believe that people who are willing to use poor quality images are probably willing to settle for other things that aren’t great either.
    2. Good quality visuals drive up engagement with your dating profile, which is one of your primary goals when it comes to online dating.  People will spend a fraction of a second swiping through dating photos and will always prefer to view good quality (think well-lit, bright, in focus) images over poor quality (blurry, low-light, red-eye, pixelated).
    3. Create visually interesting, storytelling profile photos. You want them to offer information about you, your lifestyle and your vibe. That way, when people are swiping quickly, they’ll still have a chance to find out quite a lot about you, just at a glance. Include photos that show people what you love doing, where you love hanging out, what your passions are and what’s important to you in life. Hopefully there will be something there that will make them pause, do a double take, check out your bio and then reach out and connect.
    4. Select a gorgeous primary headshot.  Now this photo has a lot of work to do. It’s the first photo people see and will be the one that either encourages people to take a closer look at your profile or swiftly move on. You need to be looking  as hot as you can, confident, happy and relaxed. It needs to be great quality, have a simple background that doesn’t detract from you and, in an ideal world, includes some eye-catching colour or other detail (e.g. bold statement jewellery or outfit).
    5. Include one full body shot. Every dating profile needs to include one full body photo. People will want to see all of you before deciding whether to reach out. Given how easy it is to deceive someone using cropped images, people are very keen to see the whole package. Don’t skimp on this step or you may find your profile gets repeatedly overlooked.
    6. Embrace bold colour. Here at Hey Saturday, we’re obsessed with bold, colourful dating profile pictures. In fact we were obsessed with it long before the founder of Tinder’s old CEO, Sean Rad, announced that the use of colour attracted radically more attention online.
    7. Include a talking point photo. This is such a powerful tip and one that is often overlooked. Give it a go and see what I mean. Something in your photo needs to interesting or intriguing. This will then give people an easy opening to slide into your messages and ask you about it. Bearing in mind, most people don’t know what to say in messages beyond ‘Heyyyyy’, this is actually a pretty badass hack. OK, so you’re wondering what kind of thing might do this? It doesn’t have to be complicated, it could be a copy of your favourite book. Maybe they LOVE that book. It could be you enjoying a delicious but ridiculously large ice cream.  Or maybe you’re hanging out with your dog. Maybe you play the banjo or practice a martial art. Anything that emphasises the unique you, include that.

    best dating profile pictures

    Top profile picture don’ts

    1. Lose any photo you’re not 100% sure about. If there’s a photo in your set of dating photos that you’re not 100% sure about but you’re thinking you might as well as include it – well yeah, don’t do that. People scan quickly through your photos looking for your best dating profile picture, swiftly followed by your worst. (I don’t think people even realise they’re doing it, so you may not be aware, but you probably do this yourself). They tend to make that all important decision, whether to connect with you or not, based on that worst photo! Eek. Don’t risk it.
    2. Lose any misleading photos you might have. You know, deep down, it makes sense. Ultimately, people are looking for trustworthy people online with whom they can build a meaningful relationship. If they arrive on a first date to find out you don’t look the same as you do in your profile pictures – it doesn’t matter how charming you might be on the date, you’ve lost them. They will feel deceived and how you make people feel is everything. Remember, great photos attract attention. Authentic ones keep it.
    3. Avoid group shots like the plague! And here’s why. They’re super boring. Everyone has them and they don’t add anything meaningful to your story other than the fact you have friends. Most people have friends so this isn’t really news! Plus you’re giving people an opportunity to find fault with you (e.g. they don’t like the look of your friends, or perhaps worse, they fancy your mate more). What a waste of an opportunity. Don’t forget this is your premium advertising space, be the star of your own profile pictures!
    4. Avoid closed body language in your photos. Don’t underestimate the power of open body language. Open body language is when the chest is up and back, the head is high, the arms and hands are open and uncrossed. Imagine you have crossed arms in your profile picture.  At best you appear defensive. And at worst, aggressive. Neither of these options create a good vibe for your profile pictures.
