Obsessed with true crime and British crime dramas, Kelly gets sucked into the secret shenanigans on her street and begins to spy on the neighbors.
Raw from a recent breakup, Kelly—a single mom and bestselling author—is looking for a distraction. So… when someone new moves in across the quaint, quiet street from her, she begins to notice secret happenings all around her and takes to spying.
Add to the list spying on her new neighbor. The one she describes as a Salt and Pepper Fox, and her book club describes as a Hot Guy. Kelly has the perfect friend (her ex’s mom) to match Mr. Salt and Pepper with. But is he single? And will either party be game to be fixed up?
Meanwhile, having just binged a 12-season British crime drama, Kelly (emulating her favorite British sleuth) discovers more about her neighbors—and murder in general—than she (and her loved ones) ever bargained for.
Flirting with Secrets is for anyone who loves books with heart, humor… and a touch of intrigue.
“I don’t know how Jill Cullen does it but her thought process is amazing! I honestly can’t say enough about how Kelly’s character makes me feel. She’s so relatable because there’s depth to her character, but her unpredictability is downright fun! That’s Cullen’s knack…character development. So well done…again!” —Chris A., loyal “Flirting” series reader

The overarching theme Jill Cullen explores in her novels is the connections that people make with each other—whether it be between friends, families, or love relationships. Her stories are immersive and are often told through realistic dialogue and fun banter.

  • How To Beat Swipe Burnout

    How To Beat Swipe Burnout

You open your apps and feel… nothing.

Same faces, same small talk, same disappointments.

You match, chat for a bit and then: ghosting, vanishing, or yet another dull date.

If you are exhausted, unmotivated and secretly dreading logging in, you are probably experiencing dating app fatigue.

The good news? You do not have to delete everything forever. You just need a reset, a smarter strategy and clearer boundaries. Here are my best tips to get straight to the point and make a real difference.

    What Is Dating App Fatigue?

Dating app fatigue is the mental and emotional burnout that comes from:

    You might notice:

    • You are swiping out of habit, not excitement

    • You feel numb or cynical about messages

    • You cancel dates because you cannot face another night of awkward chat

It is not that you do not want love. You just cannot keep going like this.

    Why Dating App Fatigue Happens

    A few reasons:

    • Choice overload – too many options leads to shallow decisions and quick dismissals

    • Gamification – apps are designed to keep you swiping, not necessarily to help you fall in love

    • Low accountability – people behave worse when they feel anonymous and disposable

    • Unclear strategy – you log in with no plan, then wonder why nothing changes

Over time, this wears down even the most optimistic romantic.

My article on Coping With Emotional Burnout In Dating goes deeper into this emotional exhaustion and how to recover. It is a perfect partner to this topic.

Step 1: Take A Proper Reset Break

Instead of angrily deleting all your apps at 2 am and reinstalling them three days later, plan a mindful break.

    For 2 to 4 weeks:

    • Log out or delete the apps from your phone

    • Focus on friends, hobbies and sleep

    • Do not stalk matches on social media

This is not giving up. It is allowing your nervous system to calm down.

Step 2: Review Your App Strategy

When you are ready to come back, do it with intention.

    Ask:

Delete or pause accounts on the worst ones.

    Then:

    • Choose 1 or 2 apps max

    • Set a time limit – for example 15 minutes morning, 15 minutes evening

    • Decide what you are looking for and stick to it

Dating app fatigue often comes from treating apps like an addictive game instead of a tool.

    Step 3: Upgrade Your Profile

If you are going to be selective, you also need to put out a strong signal.

    • Use 4 to 6 clear, recent photos that show your face, lifestyle and personality

    • Write a bio that is warm, specific and honest about what you want

    • Avoid endless lists of “must haves” or negativity

A great profile does not just attract more matches. It attracts better matches.

If you want extra help choosing higher quality introductions beyond apps, consider looking at dating agencies. The Matchmaking Service London Guide explains how matchmakers can take some of the legwork off your plate.

Step 4: Swipe Less, Filter More

To beat dating app fatigue, you must stop treating swiping like a numbers game.

    Instead of:

    try:

Aim for fewer but higher quality matches. This automatically means fewer draining conversations and dates.

Step 5: Change How You Message

Endless small talk is a fast track to dating app fatigue.

    Instead:

    • Open with something specific from their profile

    • Ask playful, open questions

    • Move to a phone or video call within a few days

If the chat feels flat from the start, do not drag it out. Your time and energy are valuable.

For more on making messaging fun and flirty, my guide on How To Flirt Over Text Without Feeling Cringe Or Needy will give you easy scripts and ideas.

    Step 6: Pace Your Dates

Dating app fatigue often comes from trying to do too much, too fast.

Instead of scheduling 3 or 4 dates a week:

    • Aim for 1 or 2 max

    • Choose low pressure, shorter dates (coffee, walks)

    • Leave enough rest time before and after

    Quality beats quantity every time.

Step 7: Mix Online With Offline

Do not make apps your only route.

    To ease dating app fatigue:

    • Join hobby groups or classes

    • Say yes to social invites

    • Let friends know you are open to introductions

Offline opportunities reduce the pressure on your apps to deliver everything.

    Final Thoughts

Dating app fatigue does not mean you are doomed to be single. It just means the way you have been dating is not sustainable.

With a break, a better plan and clearer boundaries, you can:

    • Enjoy using apps again

    • Attract higher quality matches

    • Go on fewer, better dates

And remember, apps are just one way to meet people. You have more options than your phone screen and the world is full of lovely singles.

The Machiavellian’s Guide to Flirting: For Both Men and Women

The key to being successful at love is to be playful: playfully suggestive, playfully romantic, and playfully bantering. Flirting is how you send the message that you’re interested without saying so directly. If you do it well, you can keep your prospect amused, giddy, titillated, flattered, and insulted all at the same time. Flirting is also how you establish that you have a sense of humor, that you’re smart, and that you’re sane. And it’s how you tell whether your prospect has those same qualities. If both of you are in the right mood, these routines can be great fun. The book is divided into two sections, one for women and the other for men. Since it is usually the man who does the chasing and the woman who does the choosing; these different roles lend themselves to different styles of flirting. Despite gender differences, however, most (but not all) of the chapters can be adapted for use by the opposite sex.

  • Can HPV Kill You? Medical Facts and Prevention

Can HPV Kill You? Medical Facts and Prevention

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is one of the most widespread viral infections in the world, yet it remains deeply misunderstood. When people hear the term HPV, fear often follows, especially the question: Can HPV Kill You? The short answer is reassuring but important to understand properly. HPV itself usually does not kill people. However, certain high-risk strains of HPV can lead to serious health conditions, including cancers, which can be life-threatening if not detected and treated early.

This article provides medically accurate, easy-to-understand information about HPV, how it affects the body, when it becomes dangerous, how to prevent HPV-related complications, and where to find community support and healthcare resources. Knowledge is one of the strongest tools for protection, prevention, and peace of mind.

    What Is HPV?

Human papillomavirus (HPV) refers to a group of more than 200 related viruses. These viruses affect the skin and mucous membranes of the body. HPV is extremely common—most sexually active people will contract at least one type of HPV during their lifetime, often without ever knowing it.

HPV is classified into two main categories:

    • Low-risk HPV types: These can cause skin or genital warts but do not cause cancer.
    • High-risk HPV types: These can cause persistent infections that may lead to cancer over time.

In the majority of cases, HPV infections are temporary and are cleared naturally by the immune system without treatment or long-term effects.

    How HPV Spreads

HPV spreads primarily through skin-to-skin contact, especially during sexual activity. This includes vaginal, anal, and oral sex. Penetration is not required for transmission, which means HPV can spread even when condoms are used correctly, although condoms do reduce risk.

HPV can be transmitted even when an infected person has no visible symptoms. Because of this, many people unknowingly pass the virus to partners.

Can HPV Kill You? Understanding the Real Risk

    The Direct Answer

HPV itself does not usually kill people. The virus alone is not fatal, and most infections resolve without causing serious illness.

However, persistent infection with high-risk HPV types can lead to cancers, and these cancers can be fatal if they are not detected and treated in time.

Why Most HPV Infections Are Not Dangerous

    • Around 90% of HPV infections clear naturally within one to two years.
    • Many people never experience symptoms.
    • Low-risk HPV types do not turn into cancer.

This means that having HPV does not automatically mean serious illness or death.

    When HPV Becomes Dangerous

HPV becomes a serious health threat when:

    1. The infection is caused by a high-risk strain.
    2. The virus persists for many years.
    3. Abnormal cells develop and are not detected or treated.

Over time, persistent HPV infection can damage cells and cause them to grow abnormally, eventually leading to cancer.

Types of Cancer Caused by HPV

High-risk HPV types are responsible for nearly all cases of certain cancers. These include:

    Cervical Cancer

    • Almost all cervical cancer cases are caused by HPV.
    • It develops slowly, often over 10–20 years.
    • Regular screening can detect precancerous changes early.

    Anal Cancer

    • HPV is the leading cause of anal cancer in both men and women.

    Oropharyngeal (Throat) Cancer

    • Affects the back of the throat, tongue, and tonsils.
    • Often linked to oral HPV infection.
    • Symptoms may not appear until advanced stages.

    Penile Cancer

    • Rare but strongly associated with HPV.

    Vulvar and Vaginal Cancers

    • Mostly caused by long-term HPV infection.

These cancers can be life-threatening if diagnosed late, which is why prevention and early detection are critical.

Symptoms of HPV and HPV-Related Disease

    HPV Infection

Most people with HPV have no symptoms at all.

    Genital Warts

    • Small, flesh-colored or gray growths
    • May appear singly or in clusters
    • Usually painless
    • Caused by low-risk HPV types

    Signs of Possible Cancer

Symptoms vary depending on the cancer type but may include:

    • Abnormal vaginal bleeding
    • Persistent pelvic pain
    • Pain during sex
    • Chronic sore throat
    • Difficulty swallowing
    • Unexplained weight loss
    • Lumps or sores that do not heal
    • Anal bleeding or pain

Any persistent or unusual symptom should be evaluated by a healthcare provider.

How HPV-Related Cancers Can Become Fatal

HPV-related cancers are often highly treatable when detected early. However, they can become deadly when:

    • Screening is skipped or unavailable
    • Symptoms are ignored
    • Diagnosis occurs at an advanced stage
    • Access to treatment is delayed

Early diagnosis dramatically improves survival rates, making regular screening and awareness essential.

HPV Prevention: How to Protect Yourself

    1. HPV Vaccination

HPV vaccines protect against the most dangerous strains of the virus, including those that cause most cancers and genital warts.

    Key benefits of vaccination:

    • Prevents most HPV infections
    • Reduces cancer risk significantly
    • Safe and well-studied
    • Effective for both males and females

    Recommended ages:

    • Best given between ages 9 and 12
    • Recommended up to age 26
    • Some adults up to 45 may still benefit

Vaccination does not treat existing HPV infections but prevents new ones.

    1. Regular Screening

    For people with a cervix:

    • Pap tests detect abnormal cell changes early.
    • HPV tests identify high-risk virus types.
    • Regular screening prevents cervical cancer.

Screening schedules depend on age and medical history and should be discussed with a healthcare provider.

    1. Safer Sexual Practices

While no method offers complete protection against HPV, risk can be reduced by:

    • Using condoms and dental dams
    • Limiting the number of sexual partners
    • Honest communication about sexual health
    • Regular STI testing
    1. Strengthening the Immune System

A strong immune system helps clear HPV naturally. Helpful habits include:

    • Balanced nutrition
    • Regular exercise
    • Adequate sleep
    • Avoiding smoking and excessive alcohol
    • Managing stress

    Treatment Options for HPV-Related Conditions

    HPV Infection

There is no treatment to eliminate the virus itself, but most infections clear naturally.

    Genital Warts

    • Prescription topical treatments
    • Cryotherapy (freezing)
    • Surgical removal

    Precancerous Changes

    • Close monitoring
    • Minor surgical procedures
    • Removal of abnormal cells

    Cancer Treatment

    Depending on stage and type:

    • Surgery
    • Radiation therapy
    • Chemotherapy
    • Targeted or immunotherapy

    Early treatment greatly improves outcomes.
