  • How I Rewired my Brain to Overcome APPROACH ANXIETY

How I Rewired my Brain to Overcome APPROACH ANXIETY

I’ll reveal the five steps I use to rewire my brain and completely overcome the fear of approaching women.

Look, I used to have crippling approach anxiety—so bad that I remember going to the mall with the intention of approaching girls, seeing one in a store, waiting for her to come out, and then literally running in the other direction when she started walking toward me.

In college, I only approached one girl during my five years there, and that was only because she gave me the unmistakable “I want you” look.

Fast forward to now: I’ve approached over 5,000 women, dated countless of them, and am happily married to an amazing woman. Plus, I’ve helped thousands of clients conquer their own approach anxiety.

I didn’t start out like this. I used to avoid talking to anyone. There were moments when I would go out with the sole goal of just saying hi to people, but because of all the pressure, I didn’t. For five years, I was in a complete dry spell: no dates, no kisses, no sexual interactions whatsoever.

Step 1: Understand That Women Want to Be Approached

No woman wakes up saying, “God, I hope I don’t get swept off my feet today.”

When I first started approaching women, especially in everyday situations, I looked like a deer in headlights. I thought I was bothering them. I’d go up and say, “Hey, real quick, I hope I’m not bothering you, but…” and then deliver some weird, indirect pickup line I’d heard somewhere.

Of course, my results weren’t great—until I started rewiring my brain by telling myself, “Women love to be approached.” That shift made a huge difference. My approaches improved, and I noticed how much women loved it.

Even women in relationships or married would respond positively, saying things like:
“I have a husband, but you made my day. Keep doing this!”

As long as you approach women the right way, they’ll appreciate your effort.

Step 2: Accept That Rejection Is Inevitable

Even though most women will light up when approached correctly, the truth is it won’t work out with most of them.

Some will have boyfriends, be in a hurry, or simply not be into you. And that’s okay. It’s not a reflection of your self-worth.

Think about it: Out of 10 women you see, how many are you genuinely attracted to? Maybe one or two? So wouldn’t it be fair to expect the same from women you approach?

Every rejection brings you one step closer to finding someone compatible.

Step 3: Work Your Way Up

When I first started, I approached and went on dates with women who didn’t meet my current standards. Why? To widen the pool and get comfortable with the entire dating process—approaching, texting, going on dates, and escalating.

As my skills and confidence grew, so did my standards.

If you’re just starting, don’t put pressure on yourself to have the perfect conversation or outcome. Start small. For example:

    1. Say hi to anyone—a guy, an elderly person.
    2. Ask people for directions.
    3. Once comfortable, ask attractive women for directions.

From there, you can build up to having conversations and getting contact information.

    Step 4: Be Radically Honest

I once had a client, Alex, a 26-year-old virgin. During a workshop in Budapest, I told him to be radically honest.

He approached a woman, and when she asked why he was in Budapest, he replied, “I’m on a dating workshop. That’s my coach over there.”

She responded, “You don’t seem like you need a dating coach.”

Alex didn’t stop there. He admitted, “Not really. I’m 26, and I’m still a virgin.”

Her reaction? She wasn’t turned off—in fact, she was intrigued. Alex ended up losing his virginity to her that night, and she later told him she loved how honest and refreshing he was.

    The takeaway: Women appreciate authenticity.

Step 5: Use the Pleasure-Pain Principle

We’re wired to seek pleasure and avoid pain. The reason you have approach anxiety is that you associate approaching with potential pain—embarrassment, rejection, etc.—while staying in your comfort zone feels safe.

But you can flip this dynamic.

For example, after a particularly bad interaction where I got kneed in the groin at a bar, I told myself, “Nothing can be worse than this.”

That shift motivated me. I approached two women immediately after and, despite using a terrible line, ended up getting a date with one of them.

When you associate approaching with pleasure (potential dates, relationships, etc.) instead of pain, you’ll feel motivated to take action.

    Final Thoughts

Every approach is a win. Even if you get rejected, you gain confidence, courage, and experience. Each attempt makes you bolder and more attractive.

Pocket-Sized Holidates for Couples | Date Your Spouse

Pocket-Sized Dates You Can Carry With You All Season Long

The holidays are pure magic… and also pure chaos. Between work parties, Christmas concerts, family gatherings, and endless errands, it can feel like there’s barely time to breathe — let alone squeeze in a date night.

That’s exactly why I loved the idea my sweet friend Jessica at work shared with me the other day. She told me she keeps a handful of “pocket-sized” games and activities tucked inside her purse so she and her husband can sneak in mini date nights anytime, anywhere.

    Genius, right?!

So naturally, I had to give that idea a holiday spin. 🎅🏻✨ Imagine you and your spouse laughing together while waiting in line for hot cocoa, asking flirty questions in the car before heading to a family party, or killing time during Christmas shopping with a mini game that reminds you why you’re teammates.

The Pocket Date Kit: Tiny Games for Big Love

Okay, now let’s get to the fun part — what actually goes in a Pocket Date Kit!
When Jessica first told me she carries tiny games in her purse, I immediately thought, “UM, that is brilliant…and also extremely marriage-goals.” Because honestly? We don’t always have hours to plan a date night, but we do have little pockets of time throughout the day — in the car, in line, waiting for food, hiding from our kids in Target’s candle aisle… you know, the usual.

So I started collecting tiny, toss-in-your-bag games that Nic and I could pull out on a whim. Nothing big, nothing complicated — just small, playful moments that spark connection in the middle of holiday chaos. These little games pack a big punch in the love department, and they’ve quickly become one of my favorite ways to sneak in time together.

    1. We’re Not Really Strangers – Couples Edition: Pull out a few cards while you’re waiting for your peppermint mocha or sitting in the car before a holiday party. Each question gets you laughing, reminiscing, and connecting — no deep setup required.
    2. Love Lingual: This mini deck is basically couple’s therapy in your pocket — only way cuter and faster. Perfect for road trips, lines, or cozy fireside chats.
    3. Travel Qwirkle: A pocket-sized version of the classic tile game! It’s easy to play on a coffee shop table while sipping cocoa or waiting for your kids’ Christmas recital to start.
    4. World’s Smallest UNO: You can’t go wrong with UNO, especially when it fits in your hand! Keep score across the whole season — loser has to buy the next round of hot chocolate.
    5. Mini Dice or Tiny Deck of Cards: Toss these in your purse for spontaneous fun anywhere. Play a quick game of “War,” roll for dares, or invent your own “Lucky in Love” challenges. (Example: Roll a 6? You get a kiss.)
    6. OK Play: This one is ridiculously easy to learn and even easier to carry — the whole thing clips right onto your bag! You can play anywhere: a coffee table, a car hood, a bench outside Target… wherever the holiday chaos finds you. It’s fast, competitive, and surprisingly addictive. If you want a game that’s simple, portable, and guaranteed to spark some playful trash talk, this is it.
    7. Mini Doodle Pad or Etch-a-Sketch: Challenge each other to doodle something festive — like a snowman, a Christmas cookie, or a portrait of your spouse. Bonus: the worse the drawing, the better the laugh.
    8. Trivial Pursuit Mini Packs: These little Trivial Pursuit Mini Packs are tiny, clever, and SO much fun to whip out while you’re waiting in line or sitting through yet another holiday recital. Each pack is themed, so you can choose your vibe!
    9. Games On the Go: This little deck is such an underrated gem! Even though it’s designed for families, it’s perfect for couples who want something fun and low-pressure to play while traveling, running errands, or waiting for the next holiday event to start. It comes with 50 mini games — everything from silly guessing prompts to trivia, word challenges, memory tests, and quick scavenger-hunt style searches.
    10. Scrabble to Go: If you love word games but don’t want to haul the whole Scrabble board around, Scrabble to Go is such a fun alternative. Scrabble To Go is the cutest little travel version of the classic game we all love — and it’s perfect for tossing in your bag during the holiday rush.

Make It Yours: DIY Pocket Date Kit

One of my favorite things about this whole pocket-date idea is how easy it is to personalize. Yes, you can absolutely toss a few mini games into your purse and call it good — but if you’re anything like me, you’ll want to add a little extra you into the mix. That’s where a DIY Pocket Date Kit comes in.

Think of it as your own tiny “love on the go” bundle — a little pouch filled with the things that make your relationship feel fun, flirty, and intentional. You can customize it with prompts your spouse would love, tiny treats they always grab at the gas station, or sweet little surprises that turn an ordinary moment (like waiting in line for holiday drinks) into something special.

And the best part? It doesn’t need to be complicated or fancy. A small zipper pouch, a couple of printable cards, a pen, and one or two thoughtful touches are all it takes to build a mini kit that feels so personalized. This is such a cute way to sprinkle connection into the busiest season — and it makes every little errand feel like a chance to flirt or laugh together.

Ready to make your own? Here are a few simple ideas to get you started.

    • A few printed conversation starters (holiday-themed or flirty!)
    • A tiny notebook and pen for writing love notes or “holiday bucket list” wishes
    • A couple of candies (peppermints, Hershey’s kisses, or candy canes — you get it 😉)
    • Mini dares written on index cards. Things like “Whisper your favorite holiday memory” or “Sneak a kiss under the stars.”

You can even make one for your spouse’s glove box so you’re both prepared for impromptu fun!

    10 Quick + Flirty Pocket-Sized Challenges

And because mini games already make this whole idea adorable, I had to add one more layer of fun — quick, flirty challenges you can do literally anywhere.

These are the little “love missions” you can complete while running errands, grabbing cocoa, driving around looking at Christmas lights, or trying to survive yet another holiday event. They’re fast, fun, and guaranteed to make you feel like teammates again (or at least like two people plotting something cute together).

Think of these as tiny sparks — simple moments that turn ordinary holiday errands into unexpected connection.

    1. Compliment Countdown — Before you finish your next errand, give each other three sincere compliments. Bonus if one makes you both laugh.
    2. Mistletoe Mission — Find anything that could pass as mistletoe and kiss under it. (Holiday wreath? Tree branch? Totally counts.)
    3. Festive Flashback — Whisper your favorite holiday memory together — and recreate one little part of it.
    4. Sneaky Note Swap — Write a tiny love note and hide it in your spouse’s pocket, wallet, or purse.
    5. Warm-Up Challenge — Hold hands for one full minute, no matter where you are. (Parking lot, checkout line, doesn’t matter!)
    6. Elf Energy — Pick one random act of kindness to do together before the day ends.
    7. Flirty Forecast — Predict how the night will end (wink). Whoever’s closer wins a kiss.
    8. Candy Cane Compliment — Grab a candy cane (or any holiday treat). Share it Lady-and-the-Tramp style.
    9. Car Carol Karaoke — Sing one Christmas song at the top of your lungs together. Even better if you make up your own lyrics about each other!
    10. The Gratitude Game — Say three things you’re grateful for about each other before bed tonight.
Prioritize connection during the holidays through spontaneous dates. | Date Your SpousePrioritize connection during the holidays through spontaneous dates. | Date Your Spouse
A couple prioritizing connection during the holidays.

    Happy Holidates!

The best part of these pocket-sized dates isn’t the games — it’s the moments.

The small, ordinary pauses where you look at each other and laugh. The “I see you” moments when the world feels busy but your love stays simple.

So this season, don’t wait for the perfect date night. Pull out your pocket kit, order that peppermint mocha, and make connection happen right where you are. 💕

What is MBTI in the Context of Dating?

The MBTI, or Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, is not just a psychological tool but a cornerstone in the world of MBTI Dating. It categorizes individuals into 16 distinct personality types based on four dichotomies: Introversion (I) vs. Extraversion (E), Sensing (S) vs. Intuition (N), Thinking (T) vs. Feeling (F), and Judging (J) vs. Perceiving (P). Developed by Isabel Myers and Katharine Briggs, MBTI is a widely recognized method to understand different personality traits, making it an invaluable asset in enhancing compatibility and connection in the dating scene.

    Discover the 16 Personality Types

    1. INTJ (The Architect): Imaginative and strategic thinkers with a plan for everything.
    2. INTP (The Logician): Innovative inventors with an unquenchable thirst for knowledge.
    3. ENTJ (The Commander): Bold, imaginative, and strong-willed leaders, always finding a way – or making one.
    4. ENTP (The Debater): Smart and curious thinkers who cannot resist an intellectual challenge.
    5. INFJ (The Advocate): Quiet and mystical, yet very inspiring and tireless idealists.
    6. INFP (The Mediator): Poetic, kind, and altruistic people, always eager to help a good cause.
    7. ENFJ (The Protagonist): Charismatic and inspiring leaders, able to mesmerize their listeners.
    8. ENFP (The Campaigner): Enthusiastic, creative, and sociable free spirits, who can always find a reason to smile.
    9. ISTJ (The Logistician): Practical and fact-minded individuals, whose reliability cannot be doubted.
    10. ISFJ (The Defender): Very dedicated and warm protectors, always ready to defend their loved ones.
    11. ESTJ (The Executive): Excellent administrators, unsurpassed at managing things – or people.
    12. ESFJ (The Consul): Extraordinarily caring, social, and popular people, always eager to help.
    13. ISTP (The Virtuoso): Bold and practical experimenters, masters of all kinds of tools.
    14. ISFP (The Adventurer): Flexible and charming artists, always ready to explore and experience something new.
    15. ESTP (The Entrepreneur): Smart, energetic, and very perceptive people, who truly enjoy living on the edge.
    16. ESFP (The Entertainer): Spontaneous, energetic, and enthusiastic people – life is never boring around them.

Each type provides a unique insight into how individuals perceive the world and make decisions. Encouraging users to explore these types can foster deeper connections and conversations on the Mingle2 platform.

Why Pleasure is Essential to Wellness (and no longer taboo) – Last First Date

    pleasure pleasure

Did you know that pleasure is crucial to our wellbeing? My podcast guest, sexologist Tugce Balik, dives deeper into this topic!

    —

Tugce Balik believes that pleasure is essential to our wellness. She blends Western science with Eastern traditions to help people heal, reconnect, and feel at home in their bodies and with each other. She’s a certified Tibetan Tantra practitioner and an American Board-Certified Sexologist with a focus on healing through embodiment. Her approach is gentle, empowering, and rooted in deep care. To her, pleasure isn’t something you earn. It’s your birthright, your medicine, and her work at Arya helps couples remember exactly that.

In this episode of Last First Date Radio:

    • Why pleasure is moving from taboo to essential wellness
    • Why 57% of couples can’t talk about sex—and practical ways to bridge that divide
    • How intimacy impacts stress, hormones, and overall relationship satisfaction
    • How technology can help couples approach once-uncomfortable conversations
    • Arya’s Erotic Personas and how they can help partners understand each other

EP 686: Tugce Balik – Why Pleasure is Essential to Wellness (and no longer taboo)

Why do you think pleasure is moving from taboo to essential wellness?

We’re in the second wave of the wellness movement. First we were taking care of our bodies and our personal care. Now, we understand our sexuality is a huge part of our whole self. We can’t just separate them. Many of us have had sexual trauma or taboo in our past. That’s why I’m so passionate about helping people see how important pleasure is.

Why do 57% of couples struggle to talk about sex—and what are practical ways to bridge that divide?

Do we know ourselves well enough to communicate our needs and desires. Begin with the connection you have with each other. Schedule time with your partner. Be present with each other and create safety in each other’s bodies. Sit across from each other, breathe together, gaze into each other’s eyes, and coregulate. Then, you can have a hard conversation. Frame it as an invitation with curiosity. We have an intimacy deck of cards that help the conversation.

If you’re in the middle of sex and you don’t like something, pause, start with appreciation first and then guide them to what would make it even better. You can use your hand or their hand to show them what you like. You can also demo it on their body.

For anyone entering a relationship later in life, how can we deal with post-menopause issues or erectile dysfuntion?

Have a conversation before sex to explain what you need to have more pleasure. Talk about lube and whatever else you need. More pauses and breaks? And with men who have erectile dysfunction, there are many causes, and it happens at all ages. It’s important first to find out the root cause of the dysfunction. If it’s physical, you can work with a pelvic floor specialist or talk to your doctor about what you can do. If you’re going through stress, your hormones are affected.

Also, what does your self-pleasure routine look like? That impacts how you have sex. Cultivate a pleasure routine that’s not just centered on orgasm.

How does technology help couples approach once-uncomfortable conversations?

Everyone has different intimacy languages. Technology helps identify their play styles and erotic desires. The more information we have, the better it is. When you know your patterns, you can explore more. We give monthly guided experiences to couples based on their patterns and personas.

What are Arya’s Erotic Personas and how do they help partners understand each other?

The categories are: The romantic prioritizes intimacy and connection, focuses on the journey. The directors enjoy more spontaneous sex, straightforward, goal oriented towards orgasm. The connectors prioritize sensuality and stimulation. The adventurers are into kink and variety.

The pairings are interesting, and it’s also good to see that we’re not always what we thought we were.

What are your final words of advice for anyone who wants to go on their last first date?

Recenter yourself rather than centering on the other person. Be less hyper-focused on what they think of you, and focus more on how you’re feeling in the presence of the other person. Ask, “What does this person bring out in me?”

Doc Love reveals why begging lowers her Interest Level—and how to become a Challenge she can’t resist!

    Dear Doc Love,

I am a 23-year-old male with good looks and substantial finances and who has dated many women.

I have finally met a woman who has totally knocked me off my feet. She is my brother’s wife’s little sister, and she lives eight hours away. We have been seeing each other every few months or so for a year and a half and I have fallen hard.

I am a very caring guy who has totally spoiled her, yet she is unwilling to commit. She says she loves me and that she isn’t looking for someone else, yet she refuses to settle down. I told her that the only difference in our relationship would be that she would not be able to casually date. She said she couldn’t handle this even though she dated a complete loser that abused her verbally (and I think, physically) for two years.

We do not speak about it anymore because it is a very unpleasant subject, and because we cannot agree on anything close to a solution. Is this a case of “nice guy finishing last” or as my friends and I say, “Pretty girl loves a loser”? How can your “System” help me?

    Sincerely,

John – who thinks he was jilted

Johnny, Johnny, oh Johnny… How can someone so rich, good-looking and with so much experience with women be so off base? I can see you really need my help.

You say she lives eight hours away? How do you hope to monitor her Interest Level and attitude this way? You can’t observe her body language and mannerisms over a long period of time. Plus, over the phone and during the occasional visit, she can always put on her best act. Another thing: how often does she fly to your house? If she isn’t travelling to your house 50% of the time, you’re doing too much, too soon for her; she’ll only end up taking you for granted, not respecting you, and eventually losing romantic interest in you. Physical distance, Johnny, is one of your biggest problems, but your “spoiling her” is even worse.

The most revealing bit of information, Johnny, is the conversation you had with her about “settling down.” First of all, she should have been the one bringing up the subject, not you. Second, when you have to argue with a woman to settle down, in her ears, she hears a type of begging, which only lowers her Interest Level (The only exception is if you are a guy with a yacht!). I don’t mean to crush you, but women with high Interest Level don’t want to go out with lots of other guys. The fact that you have to convince this girl to settle down already shows that she has low Interest Level.

Moreover, Johnny, by mentioning how rich you are and that you spoil her, my guess is that you’ve probably tried to win her over with endless gifts (another form of begging). But you cannot buy Interest Level. Women love gifts and there is a time to give them, but if you constantly give her goodies while she gives nothing in return, she will end up thinking that you’re a wimp trying to bribe her. My guess is that your girl contributes very little to the relationship.

Now, judging by how long she stayed with her macho ex-boyfriend, the girl you’re chasing loves the outlaw type, not Wimpus Americanis. Why? Because, though he is abusive, the outlaw, unlike you, presents a Challenge to her – albeit, a negative one (and to me this guy is a piece of crap for abusing women). She loves Harley guys and you are a tricycle guy. She loves walking on the wild side, and you have no idea where to find it. Your competition, Mr. Outlaw, plays with her mind by being a Challenge while you beg on your knees for her to take another trinket from Gucci.

What you don’t get, Johnny, is that your girl should be wondering where she stands with you, but you never give her this opportunity because you keep acting like a butler, catering to her every whim. I’ll bet she wonders where she stands with Mr. Outlaw. And she can say whatever she wants but the BOTTOM LINE FACTOR says she stayed with him for two years! Do you see how she prefers a negative Challenge to you? Now, what if you were a positive Challenge?

If you aren’t ready for THE SYSTEM – why not download Doc’s FREE 7-day dating course and take Doc’s principles for a test drive?

So, what should you do now? First, save yourself some trouble, and find someone closer to home, but if you absolutely must give this girl a shot, ask that she do 50% of the travelling (this will reveal her Interest Level really fast!). Also, cut out the gifts, and let her be the one to raise the issue of settling down again. In the meantime, don’t stop dating other people. She isn’t! Also, you have to consider that maybe she has too many scars and baggage – ask yourself why she stayed for 2 years with a guy that was such a negative challenge to begin with.

In your next relationship, look for a woman who likes you – first. Allow her to express her love for you by giving to you – first. Then, reciprocate in response. Like most guys, you rush the romantic process. Men have to learn to slow down. If you learn to do this, Johnny, then the women will start to come to you.

Guys, besides looking at the woman’s attitude, you’ve got to look at her track record in the race of love. Like a bookie who knows the history of a thoroughbred at Del Mar and says, “She only wins on a dry track,” you need to look at Miss Right’s track record and find out whether you are her type of guy or not. Otherwise she will look at you like Man O’ War facing a muddy track: no Interest Level.

From now on, Johnny: forget your Interest Level, pick your women carefully, and learn to back off and be a challenge.

Remember guys, the number one fact of life is “She has to like you first,” so save your love only for those who appreciate you.
